BUL-5468.0 Use of Cellular Telephones and Other Electronic Devices by Students

It is the policy of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to prohibit the use
of cellular phones, pagers, or any electronic signaling device by students on campus during normal school hours or school activities, excluding the students’ lunchtime or nutrition breaks unless the school site council has adopted a stricter policy.

LAUSD Cell Phone Policy

LOS ANGELES, CA – June 18, 2024 – L.A. Unified today approved Board Member Nick Melvoin’s resolution to create truly phone-free school days across the District. Studies show that smartphones and social media are distracting kids from learning, eroding their mental health, and stifling in-person social connection. L.A. Unified is the largest school district to implement a smartphone ban during the school day, with the goal of supporting students’ academic success and wellbeing.

New Cellphone Policy Starting Monday, 9/30/24

To help improve focus and learning, starting on Monday, all students must turn in their cell phones at the beginning of each class block. Phones will be safely returned at the end of each block. Air pods should remain in their backpack.
